Darwin Claus Becomes Icon of Winter Solstice

admin no comments

first_imgEvolution News has a picture of Darwin as Santa Claus.  They got the picture from a Winter Solstice card sent among atheists at Winter Solstice luncheons that are springing up around the country.  The caption on the card states, “evolve your beliefs.”The historic St. Nicholas of Patara, a Christian altruist, would be appalled at his nemesis being used to support neo-paganism.  Pay attention especially to the last paragraphs in the article.  Atheists cannot deny the case for cosmic design, and their empty hearts yearn for a meaning they have abandoned.    If atheists think they should evolve their beliefs, then their beliefs are self-refuting.  It becomes possible that their beliefs might evolve toward theism – thus denying the validity of atheism.  Beliefs cannot evolve into Christianity by any means.  That requires choice based on an intelligently-designed Master plan (Romans 10:5-13).  You might find this to be the happier choice (see 12/08/2003).(Visited 9 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0last_img read more

Panathinaikos downs Baskonia on the road (video)

admin no comments

first_imgIn a battle of playoff-bound teams hoping to snatch home-court advantage, Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens went on the road to lead from tip to buzzer in beating Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz 63-72 on Thursday night. The victory improved Panathinaikos’s record to 17-11, which is the same as fourth-place Fenerbahce Istanbul, but Fenerbahce has the tiebreak advantage. The victory also gave Panathinaikos a season-sweep of Baskonia, which dropped to 16-12 and seventh place. Panathinaikos had a dream start, not allowing Baskonia to get into any offensive rhythm. The Greens needed no time to open a double-digit margin and their lead was as big as 22 points in the third quarter, before Baskonia attempted a late charge, but never really threatened. Chris Singleton was all over the place for the winner with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. James Gist and Mike James scored 11 points apiece for Panathinaikos, while Nick Calathes collected 8 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Adam Hanga finished the game with 13 points, Johannes Voigtmann collected 12 points plus 7 rebounds, while Chase Budinger scored 11 in the losing effort.Panathinaikos stormed out of the gate, with Gist scoring 7 points, and behind Singleton and Calathes who fueled a 0-11 run, the Greens opened a 4-18 lead. Baskonia could not get into rhythm against Panathinaikos’s box-and-1 zone defense, and Singleton and Kenny Gabriel hit triples to give the visitors a 6-24 lead after 10 minutes. Shane Larkin hit a three-pointer, and Hanga got something going for the hosts, but Nikos Pappas, James and Calathes kept the hosts at bay, as the score stood 21-37 at halftime. After the break there was more offensive struggle for Baskonia, as James Feldeine and Singleton made it 25-47. Baskonia was not giving up, however, and slowly started to melt the deficit. Savvy plays from Ilimane Diop cut the margin into single digits in the fourth quarter, and it was 48-56 going into the final five minutes of the game. Budinger hit a three-pointer and Hanga made a steal under the visitors’ basket and scored as Baskonia got within 61-67. But a put-back by Gist with 57 seconds left sealed the outcome. Antipipeline aerial activists hang from Vancouver bridge block oil tanker

admin no comments

first_imgAnti-Trans Mountain pipeline activists hang from the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge in North Vancouver, B.C. on July 3, 2018. The group blocked an oil tanker from leaving the Burrard Inlet, in protest of the pipeline expansion project. (Submitted by Greenpeace)Lucy ScholeyAPTN NewsActivist Will George has been hanging from the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge in North Vancouver for almost 25 hours. He’s one of a dozen aerial protesters attempting to block oil tanker activity in Burrard Inlet to show Prime Minister Justin Trudeau they don’t agree with his decision to purchase the Trans Mountain pipeline for $4.5 billion.“It’s in my blood to protect this water and I won’t stand down. This pipeline will not be built,” said George while laying suspended in a hanging tent nine metres below the bridge Wednesday. The member of Tsleil-Waututh Nation and keeper of the Watch House overlooking Kinder Morgan’s construction site in Burnaby, B.C., is one of seven people who climbed the bridge Tuesday to hang mid-air. The other five climbers are on the bridge providing supplies and support.Environmental group Greenpeace is spearheading the aerial activism with members of the Indigenous Coast Salish community and other climbers.“Our future hangs in the balance if we don’t stop fossil fuel extraction, as does the health of these precious waterways, and the communities and wildlife depending on them,” said Joanna Kerr, executive director of Greenpeace Canada, in a press release.A spokesperson for the Trans Mountain expansion confirmed aerial activists blocked a vessel loaded with crude oil from leaving the Westridge Marine Terminal.“We respect the right to peacefully demonstrate and there are many ways to express opinions in a safe and lawful manner,” reads an emailed statement. “It is unfortunate that the actions of these individuals have caused disruptions to vessels and individuals that transit to and from the waters east of the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge, including customers from our terminal and the other marine cargo terminals.“Our top priority is the safety of the community and marine waterway users and we look forward to a peaceful and swift resolution to this demonstration.”Richard De Jong, media relations officer with North Vancouver RCMP, said public safety is the force’s top priority, as officers monitor the situation from the water and the ground. The federal government agreed to buy the existing pipeline, expansion project and terminals from Kinder Morgan Canada for $4.5 billion after the company threatened to walk away from the expansion project in April. The government has said it doesn’t plan to be a long-term owner and is looking for buyers, including Indigenous communities, pension funds and the Alberta government.Meanwhile, Kinder Morgan released the construction schedule for twinning the existing 1,150-kilometre pipeline from Edmonton to Burnaby. This month, workers will continue developing the Westridge Marine Terminal tunnel portal and relocating existing infrastructure for the expansion at Burnaby Terminal.Starting this August, workers will start clearing trees and vegetation, relocating rare plants, weed control and surveying work for 290 kilometres of pipeline from Edmonton to Jasper. In September, workers will then continue the work for 120 kilometres of pipeline between Mt. Robson Provincial Park and Blue River in North Thompson, B.C.All along the pipeline, the company is already setting up temporary construction sites, including camps and construction yards to house workers and provide office space.-With files from The Canadian Presslscholey@aptn.calast_img read more

Where The US Women Are Likely To Play In The World Cups

admin no comments

Check out FiveThirtyEight’s Women’s World Cup predictions.Let’s begin with a confession …This article is 100 percent a selfish undertaking to determine if I will get to see the U.S. women’s national team play live at the Women’s World Cup, which begins Saturday. You see, I blindly bought tickets to “Match No. 49,” a semifinal matchup June 30 in Montreal. As a 27-year-old woman looking to relive her experience as an 11-year-old fanatic during the 1999 Women’s World Cup, I want nothing more than to see the USWNT play in that game. That’s what brings me to this article — a guide to following the USWNT.Below you’ll find the chances of seeing the U.S. in Vancouver, Edmonton, Ottawa, Montreal and Moncton in each knockout-stage round, based on FiveThirtyEight’s Women’s World Cup predictions. For example, FiveThirtyEight projects that the U.S. has a 65 percent chance of making the semifinals. Based on the U.S.’s most likely path, there is a 51 percent chance that the Americans will participate in the semifinal game in Montreal (Match No. 49) and a 14 percent chance that they will participate in the game in Edmonton. read more
